Catamaran
Live Aboard Navigation
This course, taught on Moorings 42-47
foot catamarans, includes Coastal Navigation
Certification. The next step up from Live
Aboard Cruising, this course takes you into more challenging
waters with emphasis on safety and navigation. You'll increase
your confidence for catamaran cruising in a variety of conditions,
without the rigors of the Passage
Making course.
We use large, stable catamarans for this course
to facilitate the learning process using charts and other navigation
tools. Offshore's Live Aboard Coastal Navigation concentrates
on navigation, with most of your time spent learning the techniques
and knowledge to pass the comprehensive Coastal Navigation certification
exam. As you sail from harbor to harbor, you also experience handling
a catamaran under power and sail, anchoring, twin-screw docking
maneuvers and more.
Prerequisite:
Live Aboard or Bareboat Cruising Certification or equivalent training
Certification:
US SAILING Coastal Navigation certification

More
quality time on the water than any other sailing
school. Some schools claim more time on the water but
they’re not teaching the whole time; we spend
every minute on the water teaching, and bring you ashore
for lunch and other much appreciated personal needs. |

How
it Works
You’ll begin your education where Bareboat
Cruising Preparation and Live
Aboard Cruising courses left off. You'll sail from the Moorings
base in Tortola, British Virgin Islands where a delightful array
of closely arranged islands offer numerous protected anchorages
that beckon to be explored. Your classroom for the week is a Moorings
4200 or 4700 catamaran with a maximum of three other classmates
(plus yourself) and your instructor aboard.
Arrive at the Moorings base on Sunday,
sleep aboard your yacht and set sail the next morning. The first
five days concentrate on drills and techniques, taking you to
a new anchorage each night.
Your graduation present is a ‘You're
in Command’ overnight cruise starting the sixth day,
with your instructor aboard only as an observer. You return to
base the following Saturday, celebrate your accomplishments that
evening at a gala graduation dinner ashore, where you spend your
final night before returning home.
The next step - sailing or chartering
a catamaran anywhere in the world, because you now have the skills
and confidence to do just that!
